How important is the first service?
#1
My Ruby is almost due for it's first service, so I checked with the dealer and he said it would cost me $180. That seemed real steep to me so I asked what I got for that. An oil change, front and rear diff oil change, and valve check. I was going to do all the fluids myself anyway, but I'm wondering if I can put off the valve check for a while. It's not real convienent for me to get my quad to the dealer, besides the fact that I'm not sure I trust their service dept. It's running great right now, I know I should get the valves checked, but how urgent is it?

It is important to get your valves checked. My dealer wants even more for this service. It can all be done at home. The fluids are easy. For the valve clearance, get a service manual and it will walk you through it. It is pretty easy to do just takes time. After doing it on my Rancher I got a little performance boost. I plan on doing the Rubicon this weekend.

www.helminc.com sells them for Honda. You can go there or go to the Honda web site and link to them. It takes roughly 7 days to get it through normal mail and it costs $48.00 and $2.00 shipping and handling.
