Stumped.. please help

Im trying to get my 86 TRX350 together and seem to have hit a deadlock. There is a part that I beleive kicks the bike into reverse. It is a shaft with a "T" at one end, there is a spring that is bent to wrap arount one end of the T where there is a notch. It is located on the right hand side near the bottom rear, on the inside of the case. What I cant figure out is where the other end of the spring is supposed to press against. I can supply pictures, but if anyone can help me.. I would really appreciate it.. Im soooo close to getting this thing running!.. Thanks!

okay im not sure if its the same thing but the reverse shifter in the 300ex (which i have strugled with) has the same kinda thing i think. what u have to do is when u are puting the case on u have to push it up inside on to the mating side (the other half where it bolts to) there will be a good deal of hassel in geting this together but if its the same thing it just sits on the bottom of the case
