Forman 450 Dash Display
A few months ago I posted a question regarding the Neutral Light not working on my '98 forman's Display. Since nobody answered I presume no-one knew what the problem might be so I'm posting my repair.
After taking the display apart (there are 4 screws hidden under round stick on covers in each corner) I found that the Neutral, Reverse and Oil Temp lights are all clear superbright LED's (red and green accordingly). I did some testing with my multimeter to find that there was indeed power getting to the LED for reverse but it wasnt lighting up. I'm a technician by trade so I de-soldered the LED, bought a replacement and installed it the next day. Now it works perfect again. Note when installing LED's, they are polarity sensative in that if its installed backwards it wont work. On the circuit board there is a circle with one flat side circling the 2 holes where the pins for the LED's go through. Note the plastic of the LED is round with one flat side so install the new one accordingly.
If you are not tehcnicaly minded, you could take the display to an electronics shop and have an LED installed pretty cheap - it sure beats buying a new display at the dealer!!!

Yeah, surprised me too that it burned out, must have beena defective one, they are generally very reliable and long lasting, which is why few people have had to fix them!!!
I figure if everyone here posts their findings when they fix something (espeially something strange) then there will be alot more good information for people to search for in the future.
