Installed grease zerk on the swingarm bolt
#1
This was an easy mod that should save tons of hassle in the future. You can pretty much use a 1/8" NPT threaded tap and install 1/8" NPT zerk. I did run the correct drill bit (21/64th) through first. It didn't do much so I am not sure you would really have to do this. I installed the zerk on the bolt side and closed the end on the nut side. Drilled 6 small holes - 2 for each sleeve and 2 for the engine area. I should be able to loosen the nut, grease spin the bolt, and retorque. I am a little concerned that the sleeve on the left side will just spin with the bolt. The right side shouldn't be a problem because I can hold it if necessary. This will only get grease to the sleeves so the bolt doesn't freeze to it.
Not sure if you could put zerks on the swingarm right next to the bearings. I wonder if the grease would get into the bearings or just come out the seals on the inner side of the swingarm. It would at least keep that pocket full of grease thus creating a better seal against moisture and dirt. I wonder why they don't use two bearings on each side. Seems like there would be enough space.
