welcom to the forum.
just a thought
have you tryed posting this on the yamaha forum because i dont think its a honda.
as for brake in my buddy just bought a 05 660 griz and the guy told him there is no brake in time for it.
he said just ride it like you stole it.
and he has and he hasent had any trouble with it yet.
it runs great and he says it just seems to get better every time he takes it out.
but i would still ask this question on the yamaha forum just to see what they have to say.
good luck.

to break it in properly i'd say run it about 20 hours before really getting on it hard. drive around varying ur throttle placement but i wouldnt run it more then 3/4 open while breaking in..just my opinion on it tho..

thanx for the input, but what about taking everything out of the silencer to free it up, will taking the packing out hurt the engine or decrease my horse power? what if i were to remove the silencer all together, would this decrease or increase my horsepower, i dont care about how loud it is.

Your motor was designed to operate with a certain amount of back pressure, removing the silencer would more than likely make it run like k-rap, and you would be making it run very lean, running it hot enough to do damage real quick. With a new motor, I would break it in with everything stock ( don't want to void the warranty right away !!!) until you are confident it is broken in to your liking. Instead of hacking at the stock muffler, put an after market one on, you can find used ones cheap on ebay. Please don't say you don't care how loud it is, I see you live in California, I thought the laws out there were stricter than other areas, there is plenty of power to be found in the reasonable decibel range, and your friends and people that live near any riding areas will thank you for it. Just remember, with any intake or exhaust changes, you will need to rejet richer to keep the motor happy, and to put out the most power.

If you want to maximize power, run the **** out of it. It will seat the rings better. If you want longevity, you better take it easy on the bearings. In other words if you are planning to drag and rebuild often like race cars, give it all it will take. I've read all the articles on breaking in the engine and taking compression readings and all. None of them look at the various bearings or have done any long term hours/mileage studies.

well i am definetly going to break it in stock, but after it is broken in i will get an aftermarket for it. i was looking at the White Bros. aluminum race. its the same as the carbon pro, but much cheaper. which would you suggest. ABout the loudness. Yes there are many rules and regs about sound here in cal. but i live in a place called ferndale where nobody cares
