buying new forman or rancher

I would defintely buy the extra warranty on it. Also get insurance on it. Don't let the dealer get away with charging you a "set-up" fee or delivery fee. I also got my dealer to throw in a basic helmet.

I would check southernhonda.com & ritchiepowersports.com to get an idea of what a dealer COULD sell one for....Generally, I think dealers stay pretty close to retail. I bought my rancher from southernhonda in TN. They definately try to push the extended warranty on you. I don't think it's necessary. The number 1 reason I bought a honda is for reliability. You don't need an extended warranty on the most realiable brand in the business. However, the almighty isn't making these machines so some of them do have a problem or two. I have owned 7 honda automobiles and have never bought the extended warranty.
IMO, the only real positive to the warranty is for resale. A used atv w/a warranty will always be easier to sell than one w/o.
As far as the rancher vs. foreman, I debated that issue all the way to the dealer. I decided on the rancher because it was smaller and weighed less. I really only use the rancher for a toy to ride through trails and go camping. I didn't need the bigger motor no the bigger frame. You will really notice the weight of the atv when you are flying through trails and go over obstacles and stuff......If its more work than play, I'd go with the foreman. More fun than wk, I'd go with the rancher.
Sidenote, the rancher isn't a beast of utility quad, but it has gone anywhere and everywhere I have ever wanted to. The 4-wheel driver works awesome....

You can ship new and used atv's at a reasonable cost.

It all depends on what you want to use it for. If you need something to pull heavy loads and do a lot of work, get the foreman. I think it has two shocks in the rear and can handle extra weight, but it is a little uncomfortable on long trails. If you want to play in the mud and just do trail riding, the rancher is a little squishier and is more comfortable to ride, and still has plenty of power. I just wrecked my rancher, and i really miss it. I'll get another one is a week or two...

You may want to look at the "Foreman 500" topic that is going right now. A few of use have talked about the Foreman (and reviewed) it on there. May help with your decession.
I dont agree that the Foreman is "uncomfortable on the trail", on the 450 I would, but the new 500 is SO much better riding it is not funny. Try to find a dealer or someone that will let you ride them both and see what you like. Good luck with your choice and both are great machines.

Any of the 350 Ranchers with the addition of a "WARN 424" is a great combimation.Add a winch to the atv and you'll go almost anywhere.
The 400AT's low gear is not as low of a gear than the other Ranchers(350 fm,es).
If your getting a"pleasure craft" and don't need to work it hard or do big mudding,it'll be a great choice for the mid sized atv's.
It was the 400AT's tranny design and the overall (under) size that got me sold. Not to mention Honda reliability!
