The reeds are located in the area you are talking about.Pull the carb off then take out the bolts on the side of the cylinder. The reed cage will pull out of the cylinder. The reeds are the fiberglass or carbon fiber petals that screw to the cage. They should lay flat against the cage and check for cracks, chips or holes on them. The idle trouble your having is a symptom of bad reeds.

Ok I took out the Boyesen RAD and checked out the Reeds. It looks ok. There is no cracks or chips in it. I dont know what the spacing should be on it though? I took pics and put them in my photos. I need a new gasket now though because the gasket got torn taken it off.
Does it look ok? By the way how much HP is this suppose to add?

Those reeds look ok.When you checked the compression, you held the throttle open and kicked the kicker until the gauge quit moving right? It is possible the carb is in bad shape. It may be an airleak, but you have made progress from the starter fluid,so Im still leaning to the carb.

No, I think I did the compression wrong. First I just did it with one kick and it register 90. I then kicked it three times and it registered 160 but i figure that was a build up of compression so it wasnt accurate. I never touched the throttle.
Also if you notice in the RAD pic one of the reeds does not lay flat against the metal. It has a 1/8 inch gap. Is this ok? the other side is flat against the metal.

Hoopie,
You are definately on to somthing with those reeds. Replace the petals or for now try flipping them over and see if they will seal tight against the reed block. They need to be tight. When you re-install your reed cage use gasket adhesive only on one side of the gasket so you can take it apart again without destroying the gasket. Same applies to your side cover gaskets too, adhesive on cover side of gasket.
Best thing I ever did to my R's is get rid of the stock carbs. I run a 36mm pwk on both, and they run great in the woods.
Once you get it running right try using Amsoil Dominator at 50:1, I've never fouled a plug on it.
Good Luck!
