Default 05 rancher ES shift problem

Hi all, great site. My problem is a freind of mine has an 05 rancher es with very little miles on it. Sometimes when riding it on the farm checking cattle or fences the gear shift indicator flashes contionuesly and then it won't shift at all. I guess then he shuts it off and lets it sit and then it will be fine. I told him that i would ask here for him as this is where the knowledge is at. Thanks in advance.

my nephew has a trx400fga his electric shift did the same thing last month I reset the ECM and it's been fine since then . If the machine is under warrenty have the dealer do it. It is not hard to do but there are a number of steps that have to be done in the right order or it won't work and you have to start over again.

Thanks for the reply glassman 181. The waranty is up on it. How do you reset the ecm? Or where do you get that information. Also i wonder why you have to do this or is it just one of those things? thanks

Default 05 rancher ES shift problem

My nephew bought the Honda Manual for his machine there are 23 steps that need to be done in order for it to reprogram properly , also Honda has updated the way it is programed , if you are in good with your dealer maybe they would print the sheets for you . There is a thread on here if you search out ECM but be advised it is missing the new updated steps that the computer needs
