Default looking to buy 400ex, any problems?

I'm tired of my bombardier ds650 & am thinking of getting a 400ex. are there any common problems with them; ie. clutch, engine, electrical, etc?

If you buy used, get one thats never been in an accident or roll and get it with low hours. Also if you maintain it and take care of it you will not have any issues.

I agree with the others it is a great bike. but you will be bored very quickly coming from a DS. i have only had mine since april and already want a raptor. like someone else said get a Z or rappy....i dont really like the pred but hey we all have our opinions. 400ex has good power for its time but not compared to whats out there now....other than that it is just as good as the rest in its class.

I really don't need a 650...a 400 w/a decent pipe will do fine. The french don't know how to build a reliable machine...bombardier's electircal sucks ***. All I want to know is if the 400ex is a good buy in its class, not compared to a raptor or ds650.

Yeah, the 400EX is a tough bike, I gotta give it that. I noticed just how tough it was after only a couple hours on my new Raptor. They are bullet proof...............

HEY!........Why does the word tough in my post take you to the Polaris site?...wtf?

yea the 400ex is a great buy..yes they arent as fast as the new quads out now but they still have great power with a pipe, jets and a filter....im gettin one too so it a good thing you asked this question..it helped me out...but yea honda knows how to build thing..it will pretty much last forever if you do the basic oil change and oil filter...great quads..cant wait to get mine...

Well I have one that was owned by a Cousin-in-law, and its a 2001 400Ex.....

He has abused the life out of it... Leaves it out in the rain and snow, Its got rust all over it, The front shocks are shot, he didn't change the oil on it often...

And it still runs... No it doesn't run like my '04 Z400.... but the fact that it runs at all tells me its a well built, reliable machine....

Though If you are buying it new.... I would suggest looking at a Suzuki Z400... They are faster, have better shocks, and for just about the same price, they are a better machine...

But again the 400ex is a great machine too... Just Honda needs to update this model a bit to make it compete more with the almost-ready-to-race model's made by other manufacturers..

Just my $0.02
