K&N in an '05 Rubicon
#1
New guy and so glad to be here. I have just transfered in here from the street (sold my Harley)
Anyway yesterday I took delivery of my fresh out of the crate 2005 Yellow Rubicon. When we reviewed the machine @ the dealer I asked about using K&N air filters. He told me K&N adds lets in more air & MORE dirt & to stick with the stock set-up.
Any thoughts on using K&N would be greatly appreciated.
Also being new to this are their any other quick & easy changes I should be making, whether it's an extra zip tie here or there, or any other insider tips that might help.
DAMN glad to be here!

JackJack,
First of all welcome to the forum.
I have an 05 yellow Rubi and I can tell you that you are going to love it. I have a K&N on mine and it works great. I typically don't ride in a lot of dust so the K&N will work for me. I ride a lot of mud and creeks and I have a snorkel and a custom airbox. If you ride where it is always dusty then I would go with the UNI.
As far as changes, you don't need to do a thing. The Rubi is a solid machine that will take loads of abuse. You can of course do performance upgrades to make it even better. You can see the list of mods that I have done in my signature and my pics are not up to date but you can see everything but the lift kit and pipe. I will have those pics posted soon.
I hope that you enjoy your Rubi as much as I have.

I have a 2001 with 1,400 miles and had the K&N since day one. Put it on you will not believe the difference. I also love the sound and at least with mine the jetting was way too rich so that helped a lot without having to touch the jetting. There is very little dust on the airbox and you also use the pre-filter sock. I took mine off because there was hardly any dust on the pre-filter and trust I ride in dusty areas (mountain roads).
I also put the Big Gun exhaust and boy did my low end torque go way up. Do not buy the exhuast it is very poor quality and very loud and needs repacking evey 50 hours. I left it on because I threw away the original.
