Just an add on to the price given here. I (as many of you already know)live near the plant and have a best friend who is a fabricator at the plant. Employees can purchase 1 ATV directly from the plant through an "employees purchase program" for what is termed "production cost", on the Rubicon this price is in the $5700.00 range. Not trying to take any side in this disscussion . I just thought it might be interesting.
About the overheating issue. One of our riding friends along with several more of us rode through a grass field after a rain shower a few weeks back. The grass was seeding out and the wet seed got in everybodys radiator screens. This friend with the Rubicons Temp light came on and we all realized that our Radiators were getting plugged. When we got to the shed and hosed them all off we found that his for some reason had caught a lot more seed than any of the others, perhaps the size of the mesh in the grill area or something. All of them were blocked to a degree however.

anyones rubi boil over? They should boil over at 250-290 degrees and you can ride safely after that as thats well below what aircooled engiens reach in hot climet as I stuck a meat therometer in the dipstick hole on my big red and it read 320 degrees after pulling a trailer load of gravel floored up a hill in 1st low range.

Well, folks, I am finally breathing again, as I just took my Rubicon in for the first scheduled maintenance. P.S. No blown motor yet, Lookin2Buy! Anyway, I was holding my breath, because although I was not the first to buy a Rubicon from this dealership, I was the first to bring it in. It did take them longer than planned, and they had to remove my snow-plow mount to change the oil filter, but everything seemed fine. They did forget to reset the Oil Filter warning, so I had to look it up while they're looking through their shop manuals. (Hold down both of the two big buttons (on the left) for over 2 seconds to remove the Oil Change reminder). It strikes me as odd that the first couple of responses to this post were by non-Rubicon (and Honda) owning folks, who must be checking out the competition.
And, yes, there is some set-up by the dealership involved, when they uncrate the motorcycles or quads, and fill them with fluids. Maybe that dealership's mechanics forgot that the Rubicon was the first water-cooled Honda Quad, and neglected to add anti-freeze to the new bikes???
I certainly don't regret buying the Rubicon, and I'm still smiling from ear-to-ear!

Hey RubiconBob...

I appreciate your insightful replies. They're a warm welcome. I think your idea of what may have gone wrong seems like a possibility. I didn't even know it was a water cooled machine. That would certainly be a strong possibility. I was running around at 50mph when I test rode one and I can see where you could overheat without knowing it. Of course, there are probably some warning lights on the machines too. Anyway, I have decided that when i am ready to buy, I will go with the Rubicon. I felt most comfortable on it, and came away with a good feeling when I rode.

Thanks to all the helpfull responses to everyone else too.

Scott

GabooN,
The OIL SERVICE light will come on in the display pod after the recomended service interval has been met. So for the firt maintenance, it will come on after 20 hours or 100 miles which ever comes first. There is nothing fancy, its just a times. They should of reset it so that it will not come on again until you hit the next service interval.

I would not buy even a toaster during it's first year of production. I could not count the number of times I have seen ATV manufacturers make modifications to a new model in subsequent years due to problems in initial designs.

Wait a year or two to see if design changes become necessary.
