01 rubicon steering
#1
It seems lately that my rubi is steering harder than normal. I think maybe the ball joints are going bad. Has anyone had this problem? Did replacing the ball joints fix the problem. And how hard are they to change?
Thanks.
Thanks.

My '01 also steers hard. I put a 424 unlocker on it and it helped some. I have lubed the upper steering bushing with spray on solvents, and it may have helped. I haven't messed with the ball joints and I doubt they are the problem; I think it's in the steering stem or shaft somewhere. The best help I was able to get was from over inflating the front tires to @8#'s. But it still steers harder at low speeds than my other atv's.

was thinking, maybe the stock tires are wearing uneven? My stockers are wore to the point that the back edge of the long tread is very angled and amost flush with the tire base... if that makes sence

Have seen a couple of threads on this topic. I had a similar problem with my 01 and grease did not help. Finally took it to the dealer and they eplaced the upper bushing for $125.00. Got it back and it ws like I had power steering installed.

the upper bushing where it is held with the 2 bolts almost near the gas tank? there was nothing wrong with the bearing down near the tierods? my rancher is steering like a tank to the point where its harder with the 424 in 2x4, then my buddy's rancher in 4x4, any idea on the cost of the bushing
i have a feeling thats my problem since i got about 3k on mine and ride in the worse coal mud i have ever seen
