Default Fourtrax 300 2wd problems

Last weekend I was on a ride and after a couple of hours and maybe 15 miles I noticed my '99 Fourtrax 300 2wd was hesitating. I down shifted and it died.
After waiting a minute or so I could start it back up. It did this about three times during the course of the day but it always started back up after 30 second to minute wait.
I just replaced the air filter. Any ideas?
Thanks

It has the stupid gas cap but it was turned on during all this.
I've had the 4 whlr since new and I've never cleaned the carb. How do I clean the carb?
Also, what about the fuel filter? I thought about changing that out and see what happens.

sounds like float bowl is draining empty, get a can of crab cleaner and see if it will fix it

The Gas might not be as fresh as you think it is, or it is not as clean. I would add
a 3rd of a bottle of the carb/cleaner/water remover as then some fresh gas from a
different source than where the earlier gas came from.
