quick question about 400ex

Before I changed the sprocket the bike wouldn't rev out in 5th gear.. now it's capable of almost hitting the rev limiter, so I think the extra RPM's are making up for most of the speed loss (the bike is stock except for the sprocket). I noticed a big difference in torque, it just makes the bike feel 'snappier'. My GPS is on the blink so I don't have any hard numbers as far as the top-speed loss goes, but the bike is definately mroe fun to ride now.

hey guys why are you trying to slow these bad boys up? i run a 16 tooth front sprocket and a k&n filter with a 155 main jet, and that boy will run and guess what? it still comes up in 3rd and 4th... i also got a white brothers e series pipe, shredder tires in the rear holeshots in the front.go to a 16 for topend, the ex dont need anymore low end it needs top for the love of god!!

It all depends on where you ride. I don't need anymore top to my bike, I need torque. A smaller front sprocket increases torque multiplication and brings the gears a bit closer together, giving me a little more control of where I can put the RPM band.
Torque is more fun than a couple of MPH of top speed anyhow.
