450r yoshimura full exaust?
#11
Thats why I posted this thread. To see see if yoshi was a good system to go with or not. In my opinion every mechanic shop has its favorite line of products to work with. Another shop recommended white bros. I don't want to buy twice that's for sure, so I want to buy something that works and buy the right one the first time. I'll be using the 450r mostly for duning so want something that will give me some good power to go up those dunes.
How will removing the air box cause me to loose power? I thought removing the box with a K&N kit and a good carb jetting will add HP to the bike. what full exaust systems and intakes are you guys running out there right now that would recommend? Thanks.

The best performing pipes are the ones I mentioned. They all tested head and shoulders above anything else. I've dyno tested Sparks, Yoshi, HMF, Rossier, PC and ESR. I run the PC or ESR.
I ran the esr aibox eliminator, it's a great looking piece and esr's service is second to none. It just didn't make hp over the stock box with open lid. In fact we lost hp. Honda did a very good job on the box and more specificly the box intake boot. On the yfz the eliminator works great and is good for 1.5hp so go figure! Get a good quality foam or k&n with outerware and use the airbox minus the lid.
All I do is ride sand. A very good cost effective set-up for sand is: HRC cam, open airbox, good filter and one of the pipes I mentioned and re-jet. When you save up a little more$ add a high comp piston and you should be very happy.

now this is the kind of info im looking for.
you said that with on the yzf you noticed a 1.5hp gain with the esr kit, on the trx did the hp stay the same with and without the box? or did you loose some hp?

We lost hp with the esr kit on the trx. We tried several modifications also with ds 650 boots, mandrel bent tubes, decreasing diameter tubes...but nothing worked as well as the oem piece. You will be breaking in either the motor or a new cam so it doesn't really matter when you do it. My stock bore, 480 and 510 motors have never run with a stock cam.

i put the hrc cam in two minutes after i got the bike home. if you are doing a break in, then why would'nt you break in all your parts at the same time. it sounds like the shop you have been going to should not be giving advice at all.

i just got back from another shop. Without mentioning what the other shop recommended I asked for his opnion on an exaust set up for the trx. He also recomended the yoshi full exaust system, but with out box modifications, leave the box on with a K&N inside and a wb rev box. Is this mechanic just another fan of Yoshimura or does he believe in this setup because its worked for other customers in the past? What do you think?

First off the wb rev box sucks, the only rev box PROVIN to be any good is a vortec as far as the pipe get what you want ,,if you want something a bazillion other people have get the yoshi, want something your not going to see everywhere go rossier or PC or N motion or baldwin

Do not do the rev box! It's a waste of money$. WB, Procom, Thunder, big gun...are all the same just different labels and do nothing to increse hp. Like white 7 and I said the only ignition systems worth anything are the Vortex, Vortex (tokyo mod) or crf. I run the tokyo mod on my 510 as it was the only ignition that could be custom mapped for that motor it a showed a 1hp gain. That's on a motor that is putting out 40% more hp than a stock 450r. I run a crf ignition on my 480 and can't recomend it enough. Honestly the rev boxes are a joke and your stock ignition will outperform them. All they will add is a higher rev limit with no other benefit.
About the exhaust if you want the yoshi go for it. I have one on my daughters 400ex, great fit, well made...But on the 450r they are not the best pipe availible. The pipe on these things are not the make or break deal like a 2 stroke pipe. A few pipes are just a little better performers than the others. It's your money and you have some good information here, get what you're comfortable with.
