yeah, Kawi made a KX500 that was equally as fast, I remember reading MR.Know it all back in grade school- he is a huge open class 2 stroke fan and he had dreams of opening it up on a golf course

And where the measurements are taken, crank {motor dyno} or rear wheels {chassis dyno}. A banshee probily does produce 48 hp at the crank, and 38hp at the rear wheels.
Agreed... although I'm remembering 32hp for a banshee for some reason...Old age and CRS (Can't remember Squat) doesn't help... not that it matters these days with all the thumper hype.
It's good to see all the manufacturers getting competitive again, although until they start making 60+ HP in a stock bike, I won't be impressed.

My 95 cr500 had 51 hp stock and 71 hp modded and on race fuel. The 86 was the fastest bike. I think it was all in the head-compression. they changed the head and added grooves in the sleeve for compression reliese in the later models.

The factories in later years measuered the hp at the rear wheels for liability reasons {simply sounds better to sell someone a quad with 38hp than 48hp}. Around a year ago D.W did a shootout , banshee vs raptor vs yfz450. They said the banshee had 38 hp at the rear wheels. Personally I think the 06 has the same hp as the 87.
