I would never bash a HONDa. I was planning to buy a RIncon but i was unaware of the braking issue. I am aware of it now. If it wasn't for Reconranger I may have bought one and hated it.

Where I ride you can't lock the brakes or you will slide out and roll..... Most likely to your death or the quads. 1st gear and pusle the brakes is the only way down.

I HAVE TWO BUDDIES THAT HAVE THE 2005 650 RINCONS AND THEY LOVE THEM. THE ONLY PROBLEMS THEY HAVE HAS SO FAR IS THE WILL STALL IN DEEP WATER . BOTH MACHINES STALLED AND HAD TO BE TOWED WHEN CROSSING A DEEP RIVER. THE POLARIS YOU RODE DOWN HILL DIDN'T HAVE EBS? i THOUGHT THEY ALL DID?

First off, for some reason, I thought the two threads had different authors. Just wanted to get two different opinions!

CaRider-Kind of defensive aren't we??? Maybe because there is a good reason??? Why not take your new bike out and test it under technical trail conditions, and give us an honest answer???? There are tons of uninformed buyers out there (most of whom have no idea what "engine braking" even is), and they should all know what they are getting into before they lay down their money on a rather pricey machine.

What Honda built here was a comfy cruiser for the aging baby boomer crowd, not a rock crawler. Within those limited parameters, the machine probably succedes nicely.

And as for only having a "mighty Rancher and Recon", we don't wallow in the mud here in the arid southwest, so mostly on can get buy without a big bore. The mountain trails I ride are just barely wide enough to squeeze a Rancher between the trees and rocks. Anything bigger would be nothing but a handicap. And on the technical stuff, well I have a hunch a Rincon would just get somebody killed!

Well, I have a 500 Foreman, and my buddy has a Rincon.

We have been riding together down some nasty, rough, slow decents.

My buddy gets down them just fine, just using his brakes more, and he doesn't see a need for a lower gear.

Myself, I wish the Rincon had a tractor low like my Foreman... I can scoot my weight back and focus on picking the best line, and trying not to smash my frame on rocks.

The Rincon's ground clearance advantage seems small on paper, but makes a big difference in a lot of technical rocky decents. Sometimes the best line is right over the top of that big rock.

To me, I'd say it is about a wash when it comes to which machine is more capable in a nasty downhill, and after 3 or 4 days of dawn to dusk riding, the Rincon's comfort is an advantage to more than just geezers.

Just my .02.

Thinking isn't knowing BTW. Defensive? Yeah, OK. You purpously try to stir the pot with pretty much your own opinon. I pretty much stated my point of view on the engine braking, I currently ride a DS 650 which is a 5 speed with NO engine braking, never had any problems going anywhere, so why on earth would I be obsessed with enging braking? More important to me is having a larger enging and more comfortable ride, NEITHER of which can be found on a Rencon or Rancher. Is that clear enough of a response or should I type a little more S-L-O-W-L-Y??

Have a terrific day!!

Now how is it that your DS650 has no engine braking, when it has a full manual clutch? I am begining to wonder if you even understand what engine-braking means???

My whole point in ragging on these machines (and the whole line of overweight Arctic Cat and Polaris machines), is that THEY ARE DANGEROUS. I am doing a public service for uninformed buyers!

Ever ridden one?? Clutch or not you have to keep the motor revved in order to keep from stalling the engine, not exactly an easy task when going down a sharp decline.

Just sounds like sour grapes to me. You are either jealous you don't have the means to get a bigger quad or are just bitter and somehow it makes you feel better to rain on someone elses parade. But hey man, whatever floats your boat. 24 miles and I'm perfectly happy with the Rincon, went down some fairly steep grades and really didn't notice any difference other then this is a LOT easier and more comfortable to ride then my DS, then again, the DS isn't exactly meant for tight trail riding which is why I added the Rincon.

Have a terrific day!

Now this I find hilarious. A public service you say huh?

BTW, go ahead and take the DS down a sharp grade at 5 MPH without stalling it..........you wanna talk about dangerous?
