What is the best tire combo for 400ex in woods? I have a 2000 honda 400ex. I want to ride it in woods and in thick mud. What is the best brand/style tire front and rear to get the best out of the bike. My biggest concern is to not get stuck in the mud. Also, please advise on sprocket toothe ratios to match tire sizes.
Thanks, zach

If not getting stuck is most important, go with 22" Maxxis RAZR2s. Great in the snow too. You can run 14/29 gearing or even drop to a 13 on the front if it is really tight trail riding.
If you want to keep it a little sportier, then go for the 20" Maxxis RAZR2. It is mostly those side ***** on the tires that really grab the ruts even in muddy conditions to keep you from getting stuck. Don't under estimate that extra 1" of clearance you get from 22" tires though. It is amazing what you can get through. I run with 4X4 quads all the time and can go anywhere they can go in 2X4 mode.

As for the fronts, I recommend getting the fronts with the back. Everytime me or my friends have put any Razr one our rears the front end doesn't grab well with stock tires on.

I have 22" razr2's on the back of my 400ex. I think they are a great all around trail tire. If it was gonna be more mud boggin, I would head toward Knarleys. I had a set of bandits on my old 300ex. Those tires were great, for trail/mud. They were heavy on that quad, but I wish I would have pulled them when I sold it.
I still have the stock fronts, but do not like the razr2 typed "ribbed" tread. They wander at speed and I don't care for that. I'm thinking something in the kenda family, with the flatter tread pattern would be better.
