The R is awesome. Thus far, the only flaw it has is that its too damn fast and I dont like riding anything else!
That and its pretty jetting sensitive unlike a 4-stroke which I was used to.
Other than those two things, (the first really isnt a problem) its in my opinion the best bike made as well. Just wish I could buy a 2001 TRX250r with electric start and reverse.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one too. Before when I had my 300ex, I would ride once a month and be satisfied. Now, with my R, its every day that I am tinkering with something or riding. I talk about riding about 23/7, the other hour I got my mouth full of food. My gf hates it, cause she said its taking time away from her.
But damn, I never have enough time to ride!

I own a 2000 400EX, and one of my friends has a semi-tricked out 250R. First of all, don't bother comparing two strokes to four. They have different pros and cons altogether. The 250R is a great bike, it handles awesome, hillclimbs awesome, has a lot of power, etc. I like it better than any other two stroke out there. It is raw and racy compared to the 400EX, which does everything about as well but not with the same agression. But do plan on a little more tinkering time to keep it going. If you can work on it, buy it. If not, keep the potential for downtime into consideration.

I have a 87 R. It is mine for life! When you ride a R the only question's on your mind are, how fast do you want to go up that hill. When you come to a jump how far do you want to fly. When you come to a water crossing do you want to go through it or just skip across it. The bottom line is any bike can get you there, but the R will allways get you out of there.

I agree with the other posts. The only real con about the R is not having to time to ride it as much as you like. Yes they are jetting sensitive. Yes, they are tricky to learn. but once you can handle it, its a real rush to fly over 60' table tops like nothin. I wouldn't trade my 86 for any quad out there. Its sweet.
