Default '04 Rancher aftermarket diff. lock thingy?

I am about to purchase (maybe) a 2004 Rancher ES 4x4 from a dealer. It has some sort of aftermarket cable going from the top of the front fender down to the front "transfer thing" for the front wheel shafts. (pardon my stupidity on transmission parts). Anyone know what this could be? I'm thinking either a "lock" to make both front wheels turn or a "lockout" to make the machine 2WD when the cable is pulled. The dealer who took this machine in on trade was unable to figure out what it was.
Any info would be appreciated. thanks

yes, it sounds like the previous owner put a Warn 424 system on. if you pull the cable out, it puts it in 2wd. A very nice addition to an otherwise perfect machine, if I may say so myself

(Thats why i have one)
