depends on how high/long you want to rev it
75-80 is what I've seen stock (15/45)
don't think you'd get any more than 90 without engine mods, regardless of the gearing
my XR600s were great, well fun as heck around town, but just ok for short runs on the highway at 70 with 16/45 - tires and connecting rod were my worries
maybe someone else can share their experience?

I have a '98 XR400. Just last week it was clocked (by GPS) at 71 mph. The bike wasn't topped out - I just ran out of room. I was WOT in 5th, but the speed was still climbing when I had to let off.
It probably would have hit at leat 75. I'm also -1T in the front - so i'll be it's close to an 80mph bike with stock gears.
