I agree with reconranger they should replace it with a footshifter or repair them forever for free.

1999 450ES Shifting Problems

Mine did the same thing just a couple weeks ago.Turned out to be the battery.Works great now.Mine is a 99 with over 8400 kms on it.Never had a problem with the ES until the battery went bad.

Like hondabuster said...check the battery out.Most automotive parts stores will test it for free.
