Default Another ES shifting ?

I've looked over past forums for about an hour now but havent seen another ES shift problem like mine. I have a 2000 Rancher ES that shifts fine up and down in all forward gears but wont shift into reverse. It will shift into reverse with the manual lever but not with the push button...any ideas?
Thanks

In both cases... you need to hold the little red button down and pull the brake lever, right? Is the blocker, down by the tranny moving far enough? Its the piece which slides out of the way, to allow the shifter to get to reverse.

I'll check that but I'm assuming that it is since it does work with the manual shifter. I bought this new in 2000 and this is the only trouble i've ever had with it.

The reverse cable does have to work for the electric as well as the manual shifter so it appears to be ok, thought maybe someone has had this trouble before. Maybe the reverse switch?

Okay I'll try to help. Look on the bottom rear of the transmission, you should see a small wire. Pull it loose and clean it put it back on make sure you have a tight fit. It should shift just fine. Good Luck

The problem is that the reverse switch connector has become unplugged.

Look at the lower rear of the engine. You will see a "mini spark plug boot" that will most likely be unplugged.

Take a pair of pliers and crimp the connector so that it will fit tighter on the reverse switch terminal. Apply some dielectric grease to the connector and plug it back on.

Problem solved.
