change a driveshaft boot. Easy?
#1
Hey all, newbie here. I got what looks like a PITA job to do. I got a 99 450 ES that i need to change a front driveshaft boot in. (not axle shaft). It's the rear boot, (trans end). Is there anybody that can shed some light on how to do this? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Its not real easy but heres the basics. You have to unbolt the front differential, you can leave the driveshafts in place, which saves you alot of work, and I reccomend taking off the black plastic in the front wheel well on the driveshaft side. Also remove the plastic shield that covers the driveshaft.
You have to push the diff as far forward as it can go, and pull the sleeve (spring loaded) off the output shaft on the engine. Then shove the whole issue side ways and take the shaft out.
There may be a few details missing here and there, I havent had mine out in a couple years, but its common sense really.
