I just can't decide between the two. Went to the dealer today and they don't let you test drive them. As far as ease of driving over various terrain and all-around handling I would like to know which is better. I measured the side to side wheelbase of both machines and the 400ex was 1.5" wider. This to me would contribute to better overall stability in most conditions. Anyone ever have the opportunity to drive both? Thanks

The 400EX will handle better. It has more power, better suspension, a lower center of gravity & will jump better than the Warrior. The plus for the Warrior is the reverse(it may or may not be important to you).

I would take the 400ex over the warrior any day.But if your bying new I would sugest spending a little extra money a going with the Raptor.I owned a 400ex and was happy with it but the power was just not enough for me and didnt want to pipe it because I enjoy a quite machine with a stock exaust. With the Raptor now I have plenty of power with the stock setup with the bonus of reverse for trail riding.Think about it,if you buy a 400ex and due a few mods to get the power up on it you will be close to the price of the raptor.Dont forget this is just my opinion so take what you need and ditch the rest.Good luck on whatever you bye.

Thats a good thing about a Raptor, you have great power without all the damm noise from a pipe.

I have ridden both and wouldn't even consider buying a Warrior. It is over-weight, front heavy and undersuspended. I let two of my friends, which own Warriors, ride my 400 and both Warriors are up for sale now.

Both warriors and raptors have reverse.
My shee doesn't, and there are times I wish I had it.
The 400EX is a much recent machine (when was the warrior originally designed???).
If you don't need reverse, I think the 400EX is better.

I forgot to mention that 400ex parts (dealer) are way cheaper since it is made in the U.S.

I'm a Yamaha fan and I must admit that the 400ex wins this decision by a landslide.

We own both. The 400EX is more bike in EVERY way (except no reverse), than the Warrior. The suspension on the 400 is WAY better. The 400 has that extra horsepower you need to do wheelies, jumps, etc. Although the Warrior isn't that much heavier, it has a heavy feel. It flys level and is well behaved, but it just doesn't have that extra performance when you want to rip.
