how do you make a 250x faster
#4
Depends on how much you want to spend. If your going to bore it really big I think your better off with a 350x motor swap and go from there. If your going to keep the stock motor do a exhaust bigger carb bore and h/c piston stuff like that.

Those mods are going to produce more power, but like my post states above....more power will not produce more top speed without a gearing change. You can put a V8 in it if you want, but until you change the final drive gear ratio, the top speed will be the same.

And "faster" is a pretty broad term and could have meant a few different things here. Its very possible the poster wasnt thinking of the term the same way you are, though it most often pertains to top end speed when discussed in enthusiast circles.
If you want to pick apart other people trying to help, expect to have the scrutiny turned on you.

I'm not scrutinizing anyone here. But I will now scrutinize you and you propensity for speculating on what someone means without persuing it deeper, and may cost him a ton of money without the result he's looking for. We all know what the word faster means. If you are not so sure that this gentleman means faster, and you actually think he means something else, why don't you inquire to what he actually means instead of playing the forum "Jackass" and jumping on a fairly new member for answering a question based on what was literally asked? You are trying to interpret what YOU think he means and giving him the wrong answers base on what you assume he is talking about. Based on exactly what he is asking, and not the multitude of opinions of what the whole forum could possibly think the word faster means, my answer is exactly correct.
Thank you. And that's exactly what we are talking about here. So why are you even bring up something other than that?
Again, you have a knack for speculation. Your "Pretty sure" the rev limiter isn't being reached, but yet again....you haven't inquired about that. Very few ATV's cannot hit the rev limiter.
If he does in fact mean "Top Speed", then he is certainly welcome to take your advice and spend $1000 to gain a negligable MPH increase when a new $40 sprocket was really all he needed to make a significant 10-15 MPH gain.
Bottom line is don't offer expensive and costly advice to forum members when you yourself aren't sure what he wants the end result to be. Of course, it's not your money, so why should you care if you cause someone to blow a lot money based on your speculation.

More power with the same gear ratio will produce a faster machine if the rev limit isn't already reached. And since I'm pretty sure that's not a problem yet with this bike, more power will make him faster in top speed and acceleration.

He asked how to make it faster, I gave him a list of options INCLUDING GEARING CHANGES that would do so. A member of my family has owned a 250x and I spent a good deal of time on it. It was only mildly modified with a new higher compression piston, exhaust, and air filter. Never did I reach the rev limiter, nor did the owner. While its true many of todays high performance atvs commonly hit it, like the ltz400 and its clones, most of the older bikes did not. The 250x was the precursor to the 300ex, which from my experience doesnt hit its rev limiter much if at all either.
I'm not jumping on the member for his question, but rather you for assuming that the post can only be taken one way, top speed. Because there are different ways to interpret "faster" I dont think that any of us have a right to discredit any ideas that would improve acceleration or top speed until the member tells us exactly what he wants. He could gear to the moon, but without the power to pull the gearing his top speed will not necessarily increase.
Besides, someone has to be the forum a$$hole and post what he thinks now and then. I think I'll be able to handle the hit to my self esteem if all 66k members of the forum dont think I'm the nicest guy. Guess I can add you to the list.

Well...........uh...............ummmm..........the re's not much I can say after that post except I respect your good attitude about what looked like a thread that was going downhill fast. I took your post a little too personal and took it the wrong way and I apologize.
I think we both are really correct when it comes down to it. We are just at the disadvantage of not knowing exactly what he wishes to accomplish. I'm sure we both could give more helpful advice if we had more info.
Again, thanks for having a good attitude. I'll go back to my corner........

I never intended this to be a personal issue, and I'm sorry if it was taken that way. Glad we're ending on at least a somewhat "good" note.
