Default 2006 450r Just picked one up

rhino738 - along with the new engine on the 06, Honda has re-geared. The 13 tooth front comes stock in 06. So I dropped to 12 after a lengthy trial with the stock 13. I like it slightly better than the 13 so far, but maybe a 39 or 40 in the rear and 13 up front would be better?
My friend with an 05 450R tried the 13 and then the 12....he went back to the 13.

Anyone suggest an aftermarket air filter?

Anyone put an aftermarket silencer on the HRC Kit?

i am getting a new quad but don't know what too get between a 400ex or 450r people have told me that you need to rebuild the engine after a awhile on a 450 is that true? i want to get the 450 but i don't want to keep going to a mechanic and i also need the quad for at least 7 years is that too much to ask from a 450?

I think Honda's recommendation that you rebuild with the HRC Kit every 15 hours is based on racing. If you race every weekend, then rebuilding is part of your routine. Those guys seem to rebuild every week anyway.
I expect to go a few years before worrying about a rebuild...hope I am not wrong on this.
I am just now taking it in for the initial valve adjustment.

I rode my nephews 06 450r with the hrc kit and I must agree that it seems wicked quick. Reading your post about racing up China wall made me a believer that Honda is on the right track with this quad. Got to ride glamis dunes for the first time last year and made it back to china wall but the old 400ex I was riding without paddles struggled badly on this hill. I must say Glamis will exploit any weakness you have in your machine . Could have used that extra power for sure!

Yes, China Wall is a good race hill. I have seen many 400EX's and many Blasters not even make it up the hill. So, when you can wheelie up it in third, you have some power.
This 450R is solid competition for the YFZ450. Next we will see what Suzuki can do.
