Amsoil's new ATV/Motercycle oil

The second, Third and fourth paragraph should put a stop to most arguments against Synthetic oil. This looks to be the perfect ATV and Motorcycle oil!

I lost a upper rod berring on my Big red when pulling dual trailers full of gravel (so heavy I had to put 2 sacks of 90lb cement on the back rack to get traction) to a soft spot in a trail. I was floored going up a mile long hill in 1st low range at 90 degrees outside only going 5MPH. I noticed the knock so I checked the oil and a friend stuck a meat therometer in the hole and got a 320 degree reading! I was running honda gn-4 10W40 and it still didnt hold up to serious abuse. I have not had a problem since switching to Amsoil

Not to knock Amsoil fellows, but I've been using regular old Castrol 20W50 ($15/case at Walmart) in my 400EX for two years straight now and have experienced no problems at all. And my machine gets abused more than most - racing regularly in 2+ hour hare scrambles and GNCC's.
In fact, this last week I took apart the top end of my engine to put in a new 87mm JE piston and I noticed that my cam and rockers were all in nearly perfect condition - almost no wear signs at all.
Now I would imagine that you can go for a bit longer without changing the Amsoil, but I can't imagine it doing a better job of protecting my engine and I just can't justify the cost at almost exactly 5 TIMES that of my trusty Castrol.
I don't mean to incite a major argument here but I did just want to state my opinion on the matter.

Dennis

My friends all use $0.79 havoline 30W in there bikes and quads with good luck. One never cleaned his airfilter and thats what ended its top end. As long as it doenst get crazly hot your fine. I have raced hare and hound with my XR250 4-5 times a year now since 1990 and also buzz up to friends houses at a average of 50 miles a week and its top end is factory fresh.

What do you guys think concerning using Amsoil with the 500 Rubicon which shares the engine oil for for use in the transmission. I emailed amsoil to ask them, and they responded "Yes, AMSOIL's 10W40 motorcycle would be the recommended product for your Honda 500 4 wheeler." .
I question how much thought they actually put into their response though. Anyone have a tech number for Honda? I'd like to ask them directly.

I agree with the using car oil. Anything that can handle going through my trusty lil 6 cylinder, keeping a crank turning at 1800 rpms lubricated, along with the moving parts atop the cylinder head, along with everything else and do that for 3000 miles easily will surely work in my quad engine with ease. My quad will never see 3000 miles on an oil change, so I know the oil I use will hold up. Especially when changed regularly, and everything is kept clean.
Also have used synthetic in my quad for the past year now with no problems at all.

I myself have never used Amsoil, but have heard many horror stories about it. My mind keeps thinking of a certain issue of Dirt Rider magazine where they did a shootout between a number of different oil and at the end of the story as an editors comment, "It would be better to run sand then run Amsoil!" But like I said, I never used it so I dont know. I use HP-4 but for my next oil change, Im going to try Kendall, I heard some good things from people so Im going to give it a shot.
