06 450 R more power?
#11
i would like to say that i got ride of the yfz because i tore my knee on opening day at the track and wasnt going to race anymore. but as the months went bye i got better and was hungry again so i was looking at what honda had for 06 and i thought that this engine was going to be what it should have been the first time around. i was right the engine rocks. the bike is very smooth compared to the yfz. the shocks give instead of jarring you in the ruff stuff. i race a lot of mx and i loved that power that the yamaha made. it was the most powerfull mx quad i had ever ridden and i thought some times it had too much power. it had a real hard yank were as my honda has a hard smooth pull witch doesnt tire me like the yfz did so i go fast for longer periods of time and win instead of getting past on the last lap bye a slow quad with a less talented rider aboared.
My 2005 yfz had.
Full titanium yoshi pipe
pro design intake
cam mod
gytr high rev cdi
gytr jet kit
air box lid open
with nerfs and mxr4s and +1stearing stem and a few other odds and ends and this quad riped. i didnt want any more hp out of it at all. just all new mx suspention.
by the way the yfz will corner circles around the honda and would bottom out as easy as the honda will with its softer suspention. but i like my honda and am looking forward to seeing this new ltr450. i hope its as awsome as they say because ill order the second year version asap.

the 06 YFZ is supposed to correct its problems of the past and be a little torquier than previous yfz's, thats why im considering it. im in no rush to buy - i like my 450R overall (the shocks in the front, to me, are perfect for OEM) like i said, but am always open to checking out/considering other stuff.

Let me ask you all this for a comparison.......How does the 06 450R compare in handling to the 06 700 Raptor. I hope to be looking for a new quad in the next 3 months and these two Im considering. I think power will be fairly close for the 2 Im looking at it just comes on in a different ways, but how do they compare as far as handling......and I mean all around handling for everything.....trail, mx, dunes, etc. Coming from my 03 Raptor I am most concerned about handling and stability so that will probably be my deciding factor. I love the power and torque of my raptor, just not the way it handles on the tight trails or when I play around at the mx track.
It would be great to hear from someone who has some actual seat time on both of these new quads.
Thanks guys

The 700R doesn't handle as well as either 450. Compared to them, its still a little tippy but it has a softer ride in return. Being of almost the same dimentions as the YFZ, you could put YFZ shocks on and be even closer but they say it has a stiffer ride in doing so. If your coming off a 660 though, you'll love the handling of the 700.
