94 300 Fourtrax Clutch Slipping?
#1
I have a 94 300 fourtrax. The centrifugal clutch seems to be slipping and I am trying to determine if there is an adjustment. The screw that adjusts how the gears engage is adjusted properly. But -- when I try to climb a hill, the engine just seems to overrev and continue to do so until I eventualy end up in first. A motorcycle buddy told me that he clutch plates may be glazed over and are not engaging properly. Just trying to find out if there is an adjustment (where/how) and if clutch replacement an easy job (How??). Any help/advice appreciated....

The only adjustment I know of is the screw behind the oil filter. If it is set too 'tight' the clutch will slip. We have an aging 300 Fourtrax and found that as the clutch wears, you have to have the adjustment a little 'looser' than normal to keep it from slipping. I never delved into the clutch on one of those - yet so I don't know how hard they are to replace. The ones on a dirt bike aren't all that bad - just messy. A friend of mine had his done at a shop and it cost him right at $500.
