350 ES shifting problems

350 ES shifting problems
All my son's rancher the ES is not working properly. It will not shift it sound like the solenoid is trying to make it shift but it's not going into gear. do any of you have any suggestions? Thanks

350 ES shifting problems
a good first step would be to make sure the battery is good, have it load tested. Then make sure the connections are tight and clean, battery and shift motor.
if this is a 2001 or 2002, i think those years had some problems with the angle sensor, which is down by the motor, you could try that too.
