Default 400ex help

I have a 04 400ex with current performance mods of a k&n air filter, fmf jet kit, and dg exhaust. What could be the best mod i could do to it to get up the top end, and also what would be the best full exhaust. And could i get suggestions of the mods i could do it, with and without getting into the motor. I would really appreciate it.

my advise my friend is:

if you really wan't some top end, try to play with your sprokets.more top end meens you sacrifice some bottom end.

for the exaust, i think that the DG is the most powerfull out there(my opinion)so why don't you get the DG pipe that goes with your muffler?

and for suggestions, if i where you, i'd try searching on this site or on www.exrider.com for ideas.
theres alot you can do besides motor work, nerf bars, tires, rims ,graphics, air schrouds, handlebar, etc.

so then ,good luck

you mean you want more power at higher RPM's or you want to pull a higher top speed? if you want to move your power up the rev range a bit Id look at a cam, more top speed Id just sprocket it up a bit. but you wont pull from a dead stop as quickly anymore.

either add a tooth to the front sprocket or lose a few on the rear. more front/less rear=top speed, less front/more rear=acceleration. think of it as riding a mountain bike, what sprockets do you use to climb a hill then what sprockets do you change to to go faster on flat land.

Good ideas here so far, here's one more...I can speak for an 01' EX and 2 02' EX's with the same mods as 'chieferic', they all respond well to octane booster or AV gas. You feel it on the bottom end through upper mid-range. No big help on top speed from more octane, but hey, 60+mph is pretty good right? For a little more top end, Drill at least two 1" holes in your airbox lid and use an Outerwears filter(insurance) over the K&N for a little more mph. The stock airbox can't quite feed the carb with enough air at top end.
The 400EX is 'great' for wheelies, jumps, any track and most terrain. I'd hate to see someone concentrate on just top speed. Good luck

sparks timing advance, rev box and exhaust. if you still have $ after that, get the fcr carb. you can do all of these without major tear down of the engine. if you still have $ after that, get the 416cc kit with a hc1 or hc 2 cam.hc1 is better all around and hc2 is for more upper end rpm performance. we ran stock gearing for my wife(115lbs) and a 40 in the rear for me(210lbs)
