Do an early oil change, like at 2 hrs. Honda's are pretty clean from the factory, but still do an oil change to be sure you get out any metal filings. Plus, you don't have an oil filter, so all the more reason. Use Honda GN4 oil during break-in, then I suggest switching to Maxima Extra oil.

Read with an open mind and remember the factory red lines each engine in order to pass quality control. I'd also suggest changing the oil and filter after the first real ride then switch to synthetic.

No way.......it's nothing but a myth! Synthetics are just fine in these machines, as long as it is a Motorcycle Specific oil that is API SG/JASO MA (what your owners manual recommends!). I don't doubt that some folks may have had problems if they have run "car" oils that are not JASO MA, but that applies for petroleum oils as well as synthetics. That is where these urban legends get started............
Been running Maxima Extra for years and years......absolutely no problems. My motors and clutches last forever, and a day.

the maxima pure synthetic is better than any honda oil. i never ran anything but in my machines. as far as break-in. warm it up for a few 3-5 mins depending on the daytime temp. i always go by the oil cooler. when that is warmed significantly i know the motor is up to temp. then take it out and ride it like you stole it for 45 mins. drain the oil after she cools flush and fill it, then ride the rest of the day as long as possible. drain the oil again flush and fill, and ur good to go.
honestly they 250ex doesnt need a breakin. they are TANKS. i will say it time and time again. my friend had one and beat the hell out of it for 3 years, it always fired right up, never left him stranded, and it pulled plenty of yamahas back to camp. just do regualr oil changes being that it is air cooled and she will last forever.

Every single aftermarket cam maker we use in our race cars say:
DO NOT USE SYNTHETIC OIL TO BREAK IN OUR CAM
That is no myth.
Since I have not built a race engine in a long time I checked their web site to see if things have changed. They haven't. They still don't recomend using syn oil with a new cam.
Seems strange to me, but these people do A LOT of R&D and know what they are talking about.
After break-in you can use dino or syn in your machine. It's up to you.
