Default air filter for rancher

i just ordered the Uni air filter for my 05 rancher to help with the jet kit to bring in some more air, and later the pipe! But i was wondering if the UNI was the better choice?? Ive heard KN is crap so did i buy the better filter??? will the UNI filter better and bring in better airflow better than all the others or the same?

also for the record my spark plug is alittle black on the end, so its running rich! i know with the jet kit it probably is! Will the air filter and a new pipe solve this problem! the fact is i dont know what size jet the local shop put on and they dont remember..and for some reason i dont have the other jets and the kit with me! If im correct i believe they only upped the main jet one or two!

I can't help you, but I just wanted to say keep posting on what you do to your machine. I have the same one and will probably eventually want to mod it if it helps.

I bought a Warn 424, plan to install it this weekend. Other than that, I was planning on 26" tires with new wheels, but after reading a few posts from a member that likes his 26" tires, but mentions the power falls off at the end of 3rd gear and above, I'm not so sure. I'll at least do 25" though, what tires, I'm not 100% set on yet, wheels either for that matter.

When/if the time comes for an exhaust, I really don't want to go louder than stock by much if at all possible, so that may limit the performance gains a bit. My hope was that re-jetting the carb and a slip on exhaust would bring back any power lost when upgrading to 26" tires, so far I haven't found anyone that has done this to reassure me.
