TZX300 4X4 info

Default TZX300 4X4 info

Just bought a well used 1998 TRX300, was wondering what type of oil you would use for the motor and also a good after market pipe. Also was wondering were a person could find a manual for it.
Ive added new breaks and a warren 424 kit. Also looking to put a winch on it.

as far as the oil, i think 10w40 should do the trick, as long as it's JASO MA certified for the wet clutch. Synthetics are better, but for an old machine it might not be worth it.

Look around through Dennis Kirk or JRGraham for a Clymer service manual, will tell you all you need to know.
Might be hard to find a pipe for an old 300, but look around on ebay and the catalogs above to find one for cheap.

The oil thing is a widely discussed and argueable issue for sure. When looking at an oil to use in your wheeler, look for an oil that has a high flash point. The ole' 300 is air cooled and many of them do not have the accessory fan kit on them. Look for a oil with a flash point upwards or above the 400 degree temp range. Nearly all synthetics are around 425 to 450. Another factor to look at is if the oil has polymears added to it. The polymears are custom to gear oils that are used in differentials. Your engine oil is also used as a gear oil. This means that the gears in the transmission compress the oil and can break it down. Polymears help the molecular structure of the oil stick together and keep it from breaking down before it reaches the top end. Watch for detergents in some oil brands that can be harmfill to the clutches. One of the biggest issues whith these detergents is the heat your air cooled engine runs. When it is turned off and not let idle for a little bit to stabilize the oil temp, the detergents can 'fry' the clutch discs together and cause hard shifting which in turn is bad for the centrifical clutch, shift change mechanisms etc... This is only the tip of the iceberg on oil debate, so I'll stop there

As far as the exhaust.... I took an FMF muffler off a CR250 and adapted it to the factory head pipe on one (Torch and welder).... When out pushing snow with it, sounds like someone is tearing up the track on a CRF450 hehehe

for a pipe youll be better off not looking at because all the ones out there arent very good but instead cut the muffler off and weld a glasspack on in its place, cheap ($20) and sunds good[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]
