Default Honda Recon ES Trouble Codes

I borrowed a friends ATV for the week. Mine is in the shop. After trying to teach a 325 pound heifer to lead, I overheated his machine. It starts fine, however, it will not shift by electronic means. I can shift it manualy. The 1st gear light flashes 3 times when turned on. Can anyone help?

That'd be the angle sensor system.

Unfortunetly i dont have the recon troubleshooting guide, or id run down the checks. You may need to get the clymers or factory service manual, and itll step you thru the procedure for figuring out the problem, with out tossing parts at it.

You could check the connections on the front side of the motor, and make sure they are clean, dry and connected tightly. The angle sensor is right next to the shifting motor, maybe youll get lucky, and that will be all thats needed. If that takes care of the problem, then take some dielectric grease and apply it to that connector and snap them back together, that will keep it waterproof.

"Angle Sensor" Did I mention that she flipped me and the scooter backwards? Could it be flashing TILT? I did not have time to check it before dark.

Angle sensor referrs to the angle of the shift shaft and how complete the shift cycle is. If you see tilt...its time to jump off.

I did not need to jump off. I was just laying on my back watching the clouds roll by, when I realized that one second earlier ... I was riding.

What you do not realize is that I am stalling you. We were at the show barn all day yesterday and my ten year old boy shows that very same heifer today. I will not be able to look until at least Suday ... probably Monday. When I posted this , I did not expect such a fast responce. Now I am tap dancing so I do not seem rude about wasting your time.
