05 Recon Problems
#1
Have an 05 Recon that I've had for 18 months. Two issues: (1) stalling on inclines and (2) shutting off in water. (1) Read that someone had the same problem and it was a clogged vent line, will check that 2nite. Already had it to Honda, "couldn't recreate the problem". (2) Sputters and stalls out when in water that isn't close to the air intake. Was in water yesterday and it started acting up when water got over front tires. Possible electrical problem? When we got it out and checked the air box it was dry. Do I really need to snorkle this bike? Any help would be appreciated.
First day out on my new 2005 Rincon 650, flawless performance even with stock tires. Even pulled out a 06 Polaris 800 EFI!

I think you have 2 seperate problems. For the stalling issue, i'd start by going over all the plugs in the wiring harness, especially the ones down low and under the fenders, and putting a glob of dielectric grease in each connector. This will keep water and dirt out, prevent corrosion, and make a better connection.
Also, check that the rubber boots on both ends of the spark plug wire are seated properly and intact.
For the stalling on incline problem, if you're sure there was enough fuel in the tank, the next thing I would check is that there isn't mud in the carb bowl overflow line (where gas runs out if you stand the quad on the rear bar). If this is clogged the float bowl can overflow, and cause an extreme rich condition, which will cause it to stall. If the line is clear, i'd take the carb off, remove the float bowl, and make sure the float is moving freely, because sometimes they can get stuck and cause too much or not enough fuel to enter the bowl.

Thanks Recon99! I will look into this weekend. I've checked around and haven't heard of any major problems on these models and only seen one or two in the entire forum, and they didn't say if they got it fixed or not. Thanks again and I'll post as I find out more.
