Just curious, how fast is a Cr500?

87R I tip my hat to you, you are a class act.To be honest I wish more people were beating this topic to death, I don't want to see the open classers die!Suzuki officially announced that they have no affiliation with mx action and would not release any more test machines to them until they get an unbiased evaluation. We are both right the KX and CR both have the most amazing power any human can expierience on 2 wheels!Roost it up 87R

Don't take anyone advice on the bike you want you decide.... and all there doing is telling you what one has the maximum hp, maximum hp is not what counts you want to find out what one has more bottm end hp. and another thing hp is not what makes the power its the torque, the one with the lower gear ratio's will have more bottm end torque. if you had access to gear ratio chart you could find out what one produces the most torque.

Lets see,the April 99 issue of Dirt Bike did a open bike shoot out and heres what the radar said:
CR500 89MPH
HusabergFX600E 98MPH(4 stroke six speed)
Kawasaki KX500 86MPH
KTM 380SX 85 MPH
Yamaha YZF400 87MPH
I belive these numbers cause my 01YZF 426 is just as fast up Olds hill at Glamis as my 97 CR500 was.
I can usually hang with the 500s on the hill or they beat my only by a bike length.
I don't quite have the low end my CR did,but it's pretty close. Much better than any 250 i've ridden
It's a impressive bike and after riding my friends raptor,I still think it would be better if they would have came out with the 426 motor in that thing.

It just so happens that i ride with 2 buddies that ride a Kawie and a Honda 500, The KX kills the CR in low end and over all power the the CR has more top end and over a long drag race eventualy pulls away. What do i ride? CR125 after the 500's hit 4th gear i'm history so we try and do a lot of woods riding. The CR seems a little more pipey and they KX is just smoth as can be. Thats just my 2 cents. The KX is a weapon for motocross as delivered from kawasaki. It is made for maximum accelleration and is geared for just that. It is very good at exploding berms and running rampant through any part of the track. With a simple gearing change you are looking at close to 90mph. Add a pipe and you are mid 90's. Get some porting work and triple digits are no problem. Realistically, very few people can handle that much power, and even with a steering stabilizer and suspension set up for those speeds, the pucker factor is off the scale. I think it would be very difficult to get a fair evaluation of an open class machine against anything else, because there are really no tracks made for the big guns anymore.
