Hey fellas. Well I underestimated the depth of a mud/water (mainly water, you know not real soupy)hole today and ended up in water up that came about 3 inches from the bottom of the seat. Well we pulled it out and I checked the air box and found not water in it at all. Well I started it and with no problem it started right up. I rode the rest of the day with no problem My question is should I worry about anything being damaged by the water. Is the motor sealed well enough everywhere so that I dont have mud runnin through it? Is there anything I should check? I am taking it to Honda this weekend for some warranty work anyways so if you know of anything you know I should ask them to check let me know.

HI while you were in the water did you stall out or anything. The only way you could get water into your engine is if your muffler was under water and you stalled out and water got sucked in through your muffler. Other then that i thnk your fine except now your bearings might need some attention. But if this is like your 1st time you should be alright. Keep it real, later

I wouldn't worry.
I've been in the water a bit deep (2" over the kickstarter), I stalled in the water, but none seemed to go in the engine. It took quite a while to get it going again (the engine doesn't like water at all...doesn't want to crack after being washed with a hose), but it ran fine, and had no problems since.

I drowned my 400EX and it cost me $500, The airbox was filled with mud and water. If there was no water or mud in the airbox than theres no problem. I had mine up to bars and it stalled but started right back up. I didn't run it more than 3 minutes to get home. I cleaned everything and changed the oil but the damage had been done. The rings were whipped within 3 hours of riding, I decided to go with a 440 kit then. You shouldn't have any problems with yours.

There was no mud or water in the airbox (that is the first thing I checked). While pulling it out the shifter got popped into first and it flipped onto the rear bumper (pulling it backwards). I dont think that the muffler was under water. I dont know if it stalled or if I killed it or what. It happened so fast. So I am thinking that flipping it on its rear bumper would have drained the muffler if there was anything in it. Thanks for the responses. If someone knows any problems let me know.

P.S. Hey fast453EX where did you get your digital
speedometer. I want a small tach possibly
with a small shift light. Do you know
where I can get such an item???
DOES ANYONE KNOW???

It sounds like you might be alright. But, have you checked your oil??? if not i strongly recommend you do. if it looks milky changed it right away and keep changing it until it looks normal again. RIDE ON

I wouldnt worry about any motor damage just change your oil and filter, if you didnt suck any water and you rode all day you'll be fine. Although I would get grease fitting on that quad or you'll have a nice bill$$$$$ when all your bearing go bad, so either get someone to put grease fittings on it or keep those a-arm and swing arm + axle bearings greased! Also I bet if you loosen up your axle carrier alot of water will come out, so I'de loosen everything up like your adjusting your chain and let all the water (if there is any, which there probably will be) run out and lube everything up. So go and change your oil and filter and get grease fittings installed on all of your bearings. OR you can do what I did and go get a raptor! It comes with grease fittings! The 400ex is a real good reliable quad so dont worry just as long as your air box wasnt full of water.

My digital speedometer is a Bell unit, it costs $20 from Wal-Mart and it is excellant!! It has trip odometer, odometer, current speed, maximun speed, average speed, instalation was simple and mine is calibrated VERY accurately (+/- 1 mph) As far as tachometers Auto Meter is the place to check. On their website they have tachs for JR Dragsters that I think will work, they are very costly though, maybe $200-300. Keep'er pinned 5th gear buddy!!!!!
