A cam and higher compression piston will help. Just make sure that you don't go bigger than +1mm oversize on the piston, i've seen 2 motors come apart that had +2mm pistons in them. The cylinder sleeve gets a bit too thin. Porting would deffinately help, but can get rather pricey. If you want to put alot of hours on your 300ex, DON'T remove the stock rev limiter, no matter what anybody tells you. This will eventually damage the top end of the rod, and guess what, you can't buy a rod for the 300ex from Honda, so you have to buy a new crank(unless you can talk someone like Powroll to put a 250x rod on).
