About how much would it cost to build a plain ol' 250R?

that depends what you mean by plan ol' 250r. do you mean all new stock parts? after market? give some info what it will be used for and what kind of money you can spend. then we can all help you.

All stock except aftermarket exhaust. Less than $5000.

I jokingly asked my local dealer about putting together a 250R. He said some things aren't made anymore like the frame, engine cases, etc. I wanted to buy a new thumb throttle and since it's not a "unit" anymore, you have to buy each and every part; cost $198! Yikes! So, with all that you can buy from Honda and what aftermarket you would have to buy, you would be looking at close to $30,000. Lots cheaper to just get a thrashed one and fix it. I've seen that done and people end up with really nice rides.

I bought a really rough 87 250R for $900 the first of this year. It was not worn out mechanically but it had been sitting outside uncovered for 9 years according to the guy I bought it off of so it was in TERRIBLE shape from corrosion. I now have exactly $3100 and countless hours of my own labor in it and it is really nice; new tires, new plastic, new carb, etc, etc, etc...the list goes on and on. It took me two years of looking to find the right one but I finally did. They are out there if you look hard enough.

i;m in the processon building a 250r. all i need yet is a radiator, gastank, wiring harness and coil, and small little things and it should runs. i have 1400 in it right now. the shocks, axle, and a-arms i already had though. if i didn't have that stuff(their all aftermarket) i probaly would have 3000plus in it

I bought a thrashed one, and rebuilt it from the ground up, and i only have about 5500 in my quad. I will have 5900 next week. I am having the frame powder coated and the swingarm chromed.
