Default PLUNGER AND SPRING QUESTION ON 400EX HEAD

I AM REBUILDING A FREINDS 400EX. I HAVE BUILT MANY QUADS AND SNOWMOBILES BUT NEVER A 400EX BEFOR. I AM INSTALLING A 10:1 PISTON .80 OVER AND A STAGE 1 HOT CAM. GETTING THE MOTOR BACK TOGEATHER AND I WAS READING THE CLYMERS MANUAL AND SAW A SPOT ABOUT A SMALL SPRING AND PLUNGER UNDER THE CAM. I CHECKED THE HEAD AND THE SPRING IS THERE BUT THE PLUNGER IS NOT. I CALLED THE MACHINE SHOP TO SEE IF THEY HAD ONE AND THE SAID THEY DID NOT LOOK FOR IT BEFOR THEY DISASSEMBLED THE HEAD BUT THEY ARE A HONDA DEALER AND SAID THEY CAN NOT COME UP WITH A PART NUMBER. ANY ONE HAVE A PART NUMBER OR KNOW WHERE TO GET ONE? I NEED TO GET THIS RESOLVED ASAP. THANKS FOR ANY HELP.

With most aftermarket cams you get rid of these items.

Default PLUNGER AND SPRING QUESTION ON 400EX HEAD

if you are running a hotcam, you will want to remove the spring and plunger anyways. if you look at your hotcam and your stock cam side by side you will see this extra material by the cam flange on the stock cam. this will not be there on the hot cam. all of this is the decompression assembly. the hotcam does not use this so you will want to remove the spring and plunger anyways.

just so you know, here are the honda part numbers:

spring: 14126-KV2-940

plunger: 14125-KV2-940
