Honda 450r gear oil ?????
Gettin ready to ride today, and my tranny oil is in desperate need of its first change. Its been through 2 XC endurance races, about 5 rec. rides, and im beginning to worry. I cant find my owners manual, and have no idea how much it takes, and where the drain and check bolts are. I have honda gear oil as well, 80/85 i think. Is this appropriate oil for the tranny in racing and fast trail riding. Any feedback would be gratly appreciated. I WANNA RIDE Thanks in advance for any info.

dude you should have changed it by now! especially for the 1st crucial change. Go buy another manual.
i dont have mine in front of me, but the tranny side is like 600cc...drain it, squirt some in there (its the Hp tranny oil they mande for the 250Rs- 80/85W, red squirt bottle), let the initial squirt run out -plug it back up and then fill until it runs out the check hole. ride it around and check it via check hole again and you may have to add a little...mine takes a little more than the 600cc.
the engine side is like less than a quart, do same process (put oil in and take a breif spin) and watch the oil window. but if you change your oil filter you will prob have to add more b/c of the volumne of oil retained in the filter; just a little over a quart is good for mine and shows up correctly in the oil window.
the engine side needs to be changed more often than the tranny side, according to honda and common sense. i always do them together since im changing oil anyway- it doesnt take that much longer. but get a manual and definitely follow it. If you race, i suggest changing it more regularly than the manual.

You are way late, you should have changed your tranny oil after the first hour of riding, to get out all the metal flakes, etc. lift over from machining the gears, etc.! Hope you haven't been that neglectful of your engine oil and filter!!!
I don't have my quad or owners manual in front of me, but the volume your tranny takes is stamped on the side of the case near the fill hole. As I recall, it is 650 cc's (????). Get the bike good and hot so your oil will flow better, drain it, and refill until it comes out the weep hole (the hole with an arrow). Take it for a ride, then check it again after it has sat a few minutes.
On an 06 or a CRF450X, you want to overfill your trans by 50-100 cc's!
You can use Honda's red Trans Oil or another (2-stroke) transmission specific lube like Maxima MTL, or an API SG/JASO MA engine oil. I run Maxima Extra, Ester based synthetic in both my engine and trans sides.
