Slip On Pipes Vs. Complete Systems
#1
What is the better choice? Rackin' out the doe for a complete exhaust system on a honda 400EX and 250EX when we basically use them for pleasure ridin' or stayin' simple with a slip on just for the sound? Is it really worth it? How much do the full systems effect the power, rideability, and overall fun?

I don't think the full exhaust I put on my 400 made a world of difference except for maybe a little on the bottom and you could always tell where you were in the rpm range as it was very loud. A full exhaust on my 450 made a big difference though.

If you are just pleasure riding, then you could save some $$ and just go for the slip ons. Are you happy with the performance now? The extra 1 or 2 HP a header MIGHT give you comes at a hefty price. However, a header can help tailor the power output, skew it more towards the top, mid, or bottom rpm range. I would call the manufacturers you are considering and ask if they have any dyno graphs or can give you an idea of how much extra a full system might deliver. IMHO, the small gain overall from a header is usually negligible to the old butt dyno while on the trail.

Yeah we just pleasure ride with these. My fiancee looks for power more out of hers then i do. I have a Banshee i ride if i want to go for adrenaline haha. Interesting though her 250 with a power adder kit installed keeps up farely well with my 400. which i was extremely surprised. But as far as mine goes i just want a decent sound thats basically it, like i said i got the banshee for all the other stuff lol.

Yeah, I see trailblazers and 250ex's/etc. all the time that keep up just fine on the tighter N.E. style trails. While the extra power is always nice, for trailriding it is mostly a waste I suppose.
