Is the 150 dollar service charge worth it? my 06 450r is due for it's first service at the dealer. i have been changing the oil and filter every 10 hours of riding, i was just wondering what all you other 450 owners did or think. thanks for the help, i have a week long trip planned to silver lake sand dunes the 17th of june

I think your fine. Unless they check your valves then It's not worth it. Keep the oil and filter changed and check for loose bolts. That little heat sheild on mine likes to come loose and rattle. As long as it start like normal I would not bring it in. I'm going on a riding trip this weekend also. Have fun

Thanks for the help, i just called them and yes they do check the valves. but the damn thing is just running so good. we clocked it the other day with my buddies truck, it only does 74mph. but i have a hard time keeping the front end down. I'd like to go riding but we just got 3.5 inches of rain, so everywhere is flooded.

Checking the valves is the only reason I had the dealer do my first service. That's the only thing they do that I didn't want to mess with. I wish I would have just waited and kept doing regular maintenance on it myself. Maybe next summer I will have the dealer check my valves again, but I wouldn't think it is required very often.

Until you start having starting problems or power lose I think your fine. If it's running like you say then save your money until it act's up.

Yeah what camo said! You'll be fine letting it go till you notice a difference somewhere... starting or power.

Dont know about that! By the time you feel or hear something your valves could be sucked half way through your head,(its not gonna hapen but hey,,remember the titanic?),you definatly want to check your valves after your break in period, but its so easy why would you want to pay $150 do youself a favor, get a sevice manual(which you can download from one of my posts) and learn about your machine

For some reason it seems STOCK 450r valves are never within spec right from the factory, they seem to run a little tight,i guess that to keep the valves from pounding into the head after break in is the only thing i can think of

Just for some advice ,try do all the work to your machine yourself so you learn the workings ,that way when your on that nice trip to the dunes for the weekend and something goes wrong you can diagnose and maybe fix the problem,,cause the dealers not gonna be there to help you

just wanted to ask how you like the overall power of the 450r? i have the crf 450r dirt bike, 2005, and i am thinking about selling it and getting the quad. but my bike is very fast and there is not alot of bikes that can keep up. i have heard that the quads are not as fast as the bikes. but i have not ridden one yet. ant thoughts?
