Default Back from the Dead!

Hey, I've just recently gotton a '92 TRX 300 that has sat for quite a while without running. It had all sorts of problems and I have tried to fix the obvios one. I bought a new battery, air filter, and I have fixed some wiring and done a little bit with the carborator. I just discovered it has a starter and i just took it apart, its too far gone to repair so I'm buying a new one. I also need to fix the kick starter.

My question is - what should I do to the engine - or the quad in general to get it in good order? What kind of things should I look for after a long period of inactivity? Oil, grease ect.... Feel free to point out the obvios, I'm an atv newbie, I can do any of the mechanics stuff I just don't know everything I should check, and I haven't gotton my clmyer service manual yet.

Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

Check all the wheel bearings well. Figure all the rubber seals are, bad and will probably leak, oil out and or mud in. Clean the fuel tank real well, along with the carb, as you mentioned. Make sure the brakes work, before you take off and find it won't stop.

Other than that I think just get it putiing along, and see how it feels. Good luck.

Thanks, I would have never thought to check the wheel bearings. Which rubber seals - the ones on the engine? And cleaning the gas tank - I suppose you mean the inside?

Any and all seal, really. They might still be good, but something to keep in mind. Yes, if it is a steel tank, there could be rust. If its plastic, just drain it and start with fresh gas.
