My buddies one just bought a 2005 450r and one bought a 2006 yamaha YFZ 450 but i im a little strapped for money and was wondering what are some good simple ways to add some horsepower and kick some @$$. I cant let them have any power over me.

To get the most power out of a pipe, you should buy a header with it. it gives the motor let resistance in when trying to push exhaust out. also, with the addtion of a header, i would then buy a jet kit and K&N air filter. i know most people dont' like the non foam filters but i love em, as long as you keep them cleaned and oiled they stop anything and everything that comes in. another way to gain power is to cut you air box lid open like th HRC kits. i personally dont' like doing this. or you can even bypass the whole air box and mount the filter directly onto the motor with an adaptor. I have found that this are bout the cheapest way to gain some power, and not have to go into the motor.

you can start by getting a 13 tooth front sproket, gearing is the cheapest solution to low HP(about $15)
cut your air box lid(like the HRC) and slap in about a 180 main jet(about $8)
and when you can throw a hotcams stage 2 cam in there and you'll be golden

I git just what you need. Get the may or june edition on ATV Rider magazine, they have an article on gettin the 450r "race ready" when your tight on cash. I thought it looked easy enough too. If you cant find it, let me know and either i will look to or just send you the mag. Good luck dude.

did you run yours before you put the pipe on? if so what kind of difference does the slip on have? i just bought a 05 2 weeks ago. i rode last weekend and loved it. i was riding an 04 dvx before buying the 450r. i did not find any problems with the stock gearing and dont find it necassary to change the spocket, but would like to change the stock air filter to the pro design kit w/ foam filter.
