heh, This is just something i did. Make sure the kill switch is in the middle, not to the left or right. It still trys to turnover when it is over to the left or right.... i had to charge the battery twice bfor i figured that out. That dam 3 position kill switch. I was out in a rough field, on a cloudy cloudy night. I stopped and turned the motor off, to see how dark and quiet things were. I couldn't see my hand in front of my face.
Of cource, the Recons lights go out when the motor is off. I killed the battery kranking when I was ready to go! I wasn't looking forward to the walk home, this is a rural area, not a light in sight! I knew I was gonna get banged up on the walk out. (Not to mention invisible enemies of all sorts!)
Recon doesn't light their buttons. I eventually remembered the kill switch, got it in the correct position and pull started it. I wonder why Honda allows kranking when the kill switch is wrong? They are so so **** about everything else.
But I like my little Recon.

Reconranger is right. that is the starter solenoid making the clicking sound.
The problem is not enough juice caused by a low battery or poor connection...OR, you have a faulty solenid switch.
To test the switch, turn the ky on, run switch to run and croos the two "posts" on the solenoid with a screw driver.
If it cranks over, you have a bad switch.
If it doesnt crank over and still clicks, you don't have enough juice coming from the battery.

That is the dumbest thing that honda has on the recon and 250ex. The same thing has happened to me and it is probably not the greatest on the starter to keep being kranked over for so long until you finally notice it is the kill switch. That is one thing that honda should change on these quads.
