Default Honda Electrical

Hi Guys, I recently passed down my 99 Honda to my son. Hes been riding for a few years now and knows all the rules of the fine sport. He is also a great mechinic,at 14 yrs old, but when it comes to electrical we are both stummpped!.
His bike will not start. The headlight and the red light on the dash come on;(reverse) /but the green neutral light will not com on.Yes it seems to be going in gear, and neutral but no starting?By the way its a 1999 Honda 250 TRX 2*4 (that might help!!!!). Any help or suggestions would be very much appriciatted. Supposed to go camping with him next week.
Thank, you May 30 /06

it seems like the neutral switch is not working correctly. This is a foot-shifted model, correct? The neutral switch needs to connect properly for the starter solenoid to work. I would check this first. Use and ohm-meter and measure between ground and the terminal of the switch, should probably have continuity in neutral, or else it should show continuity in all other gears except neutral, im not sure which way it is. Finding the switch is up to you, I have no idea where it is. good luck.

I just took my stator off my 99 recon and i think i know what your problem is.......the good news it isnt the stator thats my problem, but in the process of removing the stator i came across the neutral and reverse sensors......get under your wheeler and look under the pull start handle there are two wires going into a black rubber piece the piece has 2 letters on it N and R check the connection and the wire going to the N spot that my be your problem.........hope that was some help. If its not reading that it is in neutral it wont start
