Do we really need a Honda big bore sport quad?

I've been running Honda XR650L motors in my quads for around 8 years now, don't know why Honda can't see the
light, awsome engine, responds well to mods, can run with all the competition out there, 450's run good but there is no
replacement for a big-block, they are losing millions in sales, too bad, I build and enjoy my own custom XR650 quads.

The XR650R engine makes 8 more HP and 12 lb/ft of torque MORE than the CRF450R.
And this power comes on 1500 RPM lower on the HP and 1000 RPM lower on the torque....compared to the CRF450R.

My 717 Warrior/Honda hybrid weighs 435, motor weighs around 110, same or less than a DS or Raptor motor. Bike is a full chassis duner/dragger. It holds its own on the drag strip against comparable weighted bikes, the XR650L is a great powerplant to stack up against all others.

I though the engine was slower than the CRF one

I weigh 260 and he's 165. On paper, you'd think he should beat me, but he can't. I love seeing that discouraged look on his face after I smoke him. The thing is, it's a nice machine that can carry large dudes at fast (but not fast enough) speeds, but because of the gearing, it doesn't give any advantage to the smaller riders. They go the same speed.

I agree. My buddy has a brand-new Raptor 700 with a full exhaust system , K&N filter and new EFI programmer and he gets left in the dust all day long by my '06 450R (and my other buddies' YFZ's). He can get through the whoops faster because of the suspension (great stock suspension, it rides like a Cadillac, big and heavy and plush), but I pass him up every hill every time.

Your 160lb buddy with a Raptor that has exhaust, filter and re-mapped EFI is getting dusted by 450's? You are either leaving something out or, maybe he lets you win becuase he is afraid of being eaten?

Agreed, there is no way a 700R with those mods is getting "smoked" by a piped 450 unless something is wrong with the Raptor. You might beat him by a length or 2, but smoked? I think that is what you are doing before the race, lol.
